PlayStation Handheld Leak Suggests Project Q Runs On Android

Since it was first announced during the PlayStation launch in May, Sony has kept details about its Project Q handheld streaming device private. Thanks to a recent leak, it looks like information about the operating system has leaked, and it looks like a basic version of Android is currently being used. This is likely still an operating system in the process of being matured, which will likely be upgraded to better suit the standard PS5 console experience.

In a video posted by Zuby Tech on Twitter (via Imgur), Project Q’s Android OS footage shows the system’s menu interface. The user in this video also provides a quick look at the rest of the handset, and in a separate tweet by Zuby Tech, the inside of the device can be seen.

Not much else is known about Project Q at the moment, but shortly after it was first revealed, Game Awards host Geoff Keighley posted some information on the device. According to Keighley—but not verified by Sony—Project Q features an 8-inch HD 1080p LCD display with a 60Hz refresh rate, three to four hours of battery life per full charge, and a DualSense-inspired design that features vertical light paths on each handle.

Project Q will be launched in November, and Sony says more information will be revealed at a later date. Sony is also gearing up to launch PlayStation earbuds, and in December the company will launch a PlayStation Access controller.
