Hasbro’s eOne has announced that Power Rangers Cosmic Fury will premiere on Netflix on September 29. David Yost, known for his role as Billy Cranston, will join the series’ cast.
“We felt it would be a meaningful landmark for fans to have David return to the show in a significant role, playing a mentor,” executive producer Simon Bennett told Entertainment Weekly. “And on a personal level, it was a thrill to be working with the O.G. Blue Ranger. David’s calm and positive spirit kept us all grounded and reminded us of the Ranger legacy we were striving to do justice to.”
Bennett added that Billy’s return was planned even before April’s Once & Always reunion special came together, so the two programs will be “completely separate… and we were asked to keep it that way, apart from a couple of tiny Easter eggs. I won’t give these away, but I’m keen to see if fans pick up on them.”
The series centers on Lord Zedd’s escape and his galactic rampage. The Rangers seek new Zords and powers, joined by familiar faces, to become the Cosmic Fury Rangers. Equipped with new uniforms, weapons, and Zords, they stand against evil.
Power Rangers Cosmic Fury additionally brings back core cast members, including Russell Curry (Zayto), Hunter Deno (Amelia Jones), Kai Moya (Ollie Akana), Tessa Rao (Izzy Garcia), Chance Perez (Javi Garcia), Jordon Fite (Aiyon), and Jacqueline Joe (Fern).
