Marvel Studios released the new trailer for its Disney+ series, I Am Groot Season 2, in honor of National Tree Day on August 6. The series will feature five brand-new shorts that will be available on Disney+ starting September 6. The show follows the mischievous sapling, Baby Groot, as he embarks on various adventures among the stars.
The trailer provides a sneak peek at Baby Groot’s upcoming solo escapades, including encounters with a robot snowman, a visit to a space dessert restaurant, and the introduction of a new friend. Fans can also expect the return of Jeffrey Wright’s The Watcher, who previously appeared in Marvel Studios’ What If…?.
The show’s logline reads: “In Season 2, Baby Groot finds himself exploring the universe and beyond aboard the Guardians’ spaceships, coming face-to-face–or nose-to-nose–with new and colorful creatures and environments.”
Vin Diesel will reprise his role as the voice of Groot in I Am Groot Season 2, following his recent portrayal in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The series is once again written and directed by Kirsten Lepore, and it will be produced by a team of experienced professionals, including Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, Danielle Costa, Craig Rittenbaum, and Alex Scharf.
The trailer also introduces the on-screen return of The Watcher, raising speculation about whether the character is Uatu, the Watcher, or another member of the species. If confirmed as Uatu, it would mark the character’s first appearance in a mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
The new I Am Groot season will be set within MCU canon and will take place between the events of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The first season of I Am Groot is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
